There are big changes coming to the FLSA rules regarding overtime requirements beginning on 12/01/2016. While this is normally referred to as a “white collar exemption” do not let this title fool you as the exemption standards are based on job responsibilities ONLY and NOT job titles and/or work environments. A client reached out to us yesterday who thought he “did not have to worry about any of this as he owns a restaurant and his employees are blue-collar”. After further discussion with him, it was determined that he had 4 employees whose payroll who would be impacted by these new changes. Beginning on 12/01/2016 the new salary threshold for exemption will increase to $913 per week or $47,476 annually. That is a big jump from the current $455 per week or $23,660 annually. Reach out to us today to proactively discuss how these changes will impact your payroll budget!
